Riding Etiquette
Proper etiquette keeps all of us safe
Trail and Pathway Etiquette
Know the Rules
Some e-bikes may be restricted on certain trails.
Check local laws for e-bike class restrictions before riding.
Courtesy and Yielding
Yield to others, especially pedestrians.
Don’t block the trail — move off if stopped.
Ride on the right side, pass on the left, and be predictable.
Lighting
At night/dusk, use:
White front light
Red rear light
Keep brightness low so you don’t blind oncoming users.
Group Riding
Use no more than half the trail width.
Ride single file if the trail is narrow.
Trail Edges
Avoid uneven edges.
If you go off, slow and stop before re-entering the trail safely.
Speed and Awareness
Follow posted speed limits.
Be extra cautious around children, dogs, and wildlife — they move unpredictably.
Trail Crossings
Slow down and look for cross traffic at intersections or merges.
Passing Etiquette
Warn before passing: say “On your left!” or ring a bell.
Give warning early, repeat if necessary.
Allow at least 3 feet of clearance.
Only pass when it’s clear of oncoming users.
Always pass on the left.
Predictability and Communication
Signal when turning, slowing, stopping, or passing.
Keep one ear free to hear others or approaching traffic.
